You probably know that Houston has a Museum District, but did you know that the Museum District is separated into four distinct zones? This week we’ll be exploring Zone 1. Zone 1 is located in Montrose, home to St. Thomas University, the Rothko Chapel, the Menil Collection, and the Houston Center for Photography. So grab your walking shoes and a bottle of water, time to start the hunt!

The Menil Park is one of the main highlights of Zone 1

Audience: Families, Adults, Stroller Friendly

Price: Free!

Parking: This Scavenger Hunt starts at the Chapel of St. Basil (the intersection of W. Alabama St. and Yoakum Blvd). You can pay to park in the University of St. Thomas parking garage (3800 Montrose Blvd), or you can duke it out trying to find street parking. If you go early enough in the day there is usually ample street parking around the Menil Collection’s main building.

Important Note: This entire Scavenger Hunt takes place outside, make sure to check the weather before you head out. Also, I find that using Google or Apple maps is the best way to complete this Scavenger Hunt, or you can use the map provided below. Also many of the museums on this district are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
